Today we had the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in Evanston where Dr. Fessenden had been in charge for twenty-eight years. I worked with him twenty-five of those, and I always found him to be the perfect ideal of a gentleman. It was such a shock to hear of his death. He will be missed.

My grandmother (who knew Dr. Fessenden for 40 years!) referred me to the Doctor 14 years ago during my freshman year of college. While I’ve changed locations quite a bit since that time, I always enjoyed coming back to the Windy City and checking in with Dr. Fessenden. He was fun to converse with and helped get my skin under control. My husband jokingly called him both my dermatologist and “shrink.” 🙂 I was saddened to hear the news of his passing, but glad to have had a chance to speak with him this summer. My sincere condolences to his family and thanks to Dr. Fessenden for being a very nice and helpful person.

I remember the fun we had planning and decorating Lyric Opera House for the Fantasy Balls. I spoke with him about a month ago and am saddened to hear of his passing.

My condolences to his family.

I only heard about Dr. Fessenden’s death today, November 28.

I was a patient of his for many years, probably from the time he took over the practice (and the equipment and furnishings) from a physician who retired. We shared a mutual interest in opera, so my appointments sometimes went on longer than would have been required by my medical complaint alone. My condolences to his family on their loss.

I only learned yesterday (January 23, 2012) of Dr. Fessenden’s passing. He was a wonderful doctor and a caring and cultured person. I was his patient for over 25 years and will certainly miss him. My belated condolences to his family and friends.

I have been a patient of Dr. Fessenden’s since I was 17 I think and I am now approaching 60. I called today to schedule an appointment and was so looking forward to seeing him and catching up. He was a wonderful doctor and a caring and interesting person. I always enjoyed going to see him and will miss our chats. I referred many friends to him and they were also always pleased with their association. He will long be missed.

I am so glad his patients have remembered this beloved friend, as I have never found an obituary.

Bill was a great man, a brilliant scholar, a doctor who loved his patients deeply, a berserk opera aficionado, the kindest of us all.

I just learned that Dr. Fessenden died (Feb 19th). I’m so shocked and saddened. He was such a kind man, always asking about your life, and he genuinely cared about you. Ironically, I was searching for an address to send a birth announcement for my baby girl to his office. Does anyone know where Hattie is? So so sad. I’ll miss him.

I was visiting another doctor today (2-20-2012)in the 500 N. Michigan building and just heard that Bill had died. I was surprised. I had been going to Dr. Fessenden for almost 20 years as needed for skin problems. He was a wonderful doctor and loved to give you free samples to help save money. He was an old fashioned doc who spent time with you and always gave me more time so we could just chat about my life. I will dearly miss him. Rest in Peace dear friend.

Bill and I were great friends for many years. I was also one of many, I am sure, long term patients. I wish I could find someone with his care and technique. My best wishes to his family and friends in this time of sorrow.

I was just trying to call the office to make an appointment for my daughter and found out that Dr. Fessenden had passed away.
My condolences go out his family, friends and well as Hattie.
My Mom worked in the office of the building for many years which was how I met him. A finer gentleman I doubt anyone could have met. He was an excellent Doctor and an even better human being. I am so saddened to hear of his passing.

I only learned today (June 11, 2012) of Dr. Fessenden’s passing when I was trying to get a prescription renewed. I was a patient for 13 years. He will be missed – he had a great bedside manner and would give each patient his full time and attention. My condolences.

June 19, 2012 I tried calling Dr. Fessenden’s office and home to no avail. I finally googled “is he deceased?” and found this sight. I am so sad. I have know Bill since 1968 when he came to Chicago and joined Dr. F. Schwartz’s practice. He took over his practice when Dr. Schwartz died. I worked at the desk in the office in the summer a few years in the 70’s until school started and I went back to teaching. What a dear, kind man who loved music and Opera. Bill was a dear family friend of my parents and I and our dermatologist.

June 21, 2012. Very sad to hear of Dr. Fessenden’s passing. I was a patient of his for only a few years but found him to be a gem of a human being and a very honorable man. I wish his family my sincerest condolences.

We discovered in June, 2012 that our dearly beloved Dr. Fessenden had made his transition. I was his patient for more than 34 years. I saw him in September, 2009 as a patient, and he gave me, as always, words of encouragement for another type of health issue. He was truly a remarkable and kind individual and a brilliant doctor. He truly cared about his patients and their families. Please accept our late condolences and he will always be remebered in our prayers, as well as his “right hand” Hettie. I really developed my love of the opera from Dr. Fessenden.

Although I initially heard from the answering machine at the office that Dr. Fessenden had passed, I think of his kind and compassionate care often. Just found this site on the internet and wanted to add my thoughts to those of others who appreciated and benefited from his life and work.

I’m in shock about Dr. Fessenden’s passing. I was one of his first patients when he took over the Schwartz practice. As others mentioned he was just wonderful. He was always interested in you as a person and many times we backed up his office as we shared stories.

He is missed!

So sorry to hear that Dr. Fessenden passed away. He was a wonderful doctor–always interested in the patient and their family, and glad to converse rather than rush you out the door. Enjoyed his lobby furnishings, including vintage childrens’ books that may well have been his favorites when he was a boy.

Just learned about the loss of dear Dr. Fessenden, and I am so sorry for your loss. I was a patient of his some years ago when he helped me with a problem for which other doctors had no solution. I tried to phone his office to make an appointment today only find that his office was closed. He was the kindest, most wonderful, generous and caring doctor. An exceptional physician and a true healer in every way. Appointments with this remarkable renaissance gentleman were always a joy! Thank you for everything, Dr. Fessenden! The world has lost one of the very best, and he will be sadly missed.

I regret that I did not know of Dr. Fesseden’s passing until just now as I tried to make an appointment to see him. He was the kindest of all doctors. I will deeply miss him and very much regret that I was unable to pass my condolences to his family in a more timely fashion. I do hope it helps to know that the memory of his fine service and professionalism are long lasting. My condolences to Hattie also.
