Berny was one of the most fun loving, caring, hysterical, thoughtful and pleasant person I had the pleasure to call my friend. I miss his contagious laugh and sharp comebacks and he was very quick witted. He always ended our conversation with a ‘ love ya brother’. I miss him deeply but knowing god is taking care of him now.

Berny was always someone you could count on to share a laugh with. He always had a quick and witty way with his words. Rest in Peace.

When I came in the feeder over 23 years ago. Bernie, (Elvis.) Befriended me. What I didn’t know was that friendship gave him all rights to joke about me, but God forbid anyone else did he stick up for me? One day I was called in the office because someone thought he went over the top on joking about me. They wanna know if I wanted to press charges. I said he’s my best friend. I think that answers your question. And then in Bernie style I remember him, saying, managements not that smart, so I had to explain to them, what I meant and said absolutely, NO!!! He was always very nice to people coming into Feeder, and gave him a helping hand anytime he could. He didn’t even care if you weren’t, Irish A treated everyone, the same love and respect and made them listen to all 20,000 of his long stories over and over again. Id like to say every time I was on the CB and I said a friend and I Elvis was quick to say the story it’s not true, because he has no friends —- he knew how to make people feel important. Love you Bernie will miss you, but always in my heart.

Dear Family and Friends of Berny (Elvis) Jayne, please accept my sincere and heartfelt condolences. I worked with Elvis for 25 years or so. If our paths crossed during our workday (or night) I knew I was in store for laughter and lighthearted bantering. I always looked forward to working a Tuesday thru Saturday bid because along with “Iguana”, “Mixer”, “John Boy” and others, Burny (Elvis) would be there to lighten the load and make the work week enjoyable. Burny was fun to be around. Going to a Cub game or sharing a round of golf. We hadn`t seen each other in a while, us being retired and all but I can still hear him asking me as he would go into retelling a story, “Hey Luggy, I told you this one before didn’t I”…. but he would have a way of making the story sound new. We enjoyed each others jokes and stories. We enjoyed each others friendship. I also remember if you needed to know the name of the band that played a particular song, especially from the 60`s, he had the correct answer. He would boast (sarcastically) that he was a “source for a plethora of useless information”. And then we`d laugh…

Bernie was one of a kind. Like so many others have said, he knew every song and its artist and he always had a joke for you. He never said a bad word about anyone. He will be greatly missed. Our sympathies to the entire Jayne family. We love you all.

Jayne Family – all of you –
I am Berny’s youngest cousin—his Aunt Winnie’s youngest daughter. Because I was so much younger than my cousins, I knew Berny as “one of the Jaynes”, someone who I saw at Grandma’s on Christmas Eve – whose school picture/graduation/wedding photo was on the refrigerator. It wasn’t until later in my life that he became a real person. He was the guy who couldn’t stop smiling, who wore the brown proudly, who ALWAYS had something nice to say about my parents. Living far away in Washington state doesn’t allow for many visits and when I was in town this past summer I missed my chance to connect and see Berny at the O’Neill picnic. I skipped it to spend time with my sisters – time I don’t regret, because time with my family feels so rare and precious. I’m sure that the time you all have spent in Berny’s company has felt just as precious. And those memories are the ones that help make the passing bearable. I’m so sorry for your (and all of our) loss.

Berny was a great guy. I’m glad I knew him.
