Octavio L.  Martinez Sr. age 84, was born into Eternal Life, Sunday, February 13, 2022 at his residence in Chicago, surrounded by his loving family. Octavio was born March 22, 1937 in San Antonio Texas.

Loving parents Maria Lopez & Primotivo Martinez He was one of seven children: Rudy, Natividad, Consuelo, Primitivo Jr., Tomas, Frank and Anita. Octavio’s mother passed away when he was four years old and we are sure she was the first to greet him when he entered heaven.

Octavio loved his country and he loved his birth place San Antonio, Texas. He served his country 4 years in the United States Coast Guard. Octavio married  the love of his life Mary “Mana” Martinez and they were blessed and married for 61 years. 

Cherished father of: Mary Jane (Terry), Connie (Lorgio), Octavio Jr (Bertha), Patricia, Beatrice (Nickolas), Sandra (Anthony). Proud grandpa, great grandpa, and great great grandpa to his treasured Grandkids: Sonia, Christina, Sebra, Nicky, Melissa, Michelle, Violet, Lorgio, Andy, Jessica, Erica, Gabriel, Marisa, David, Crystal, Ruben, Lisa, Joshua, Anthony, Ariel and Angel (RIP). Great Grandkids:  Ashley, Lily, Christopher, Alexis, Ariana, Leiani, Daniel, Nati, Jeremy, Jason, Giselle, Jr, Faith, Hope, Eve, Julian, Andy, Damian, Gabriella, Evan (RIP), Ian, Zach, Juliana, Liam Octavio, , Jacob, Damian, Evelyn, Khloey, Jaida, Joey, Yesenia, Santana, Leone and Leonardo.  Great Great grandkids: Aliana, Ariel, Sophia, James, Amy and Elliot Octavio.

He worked as a trimmer on cars for 40+ years and extended his creativity into costume designing and upholstery on cars and boats. His grandchildren would tell you “Grandpa Tavio can fix anything.”

He made everyone laugh, always had a joke or sarcastic comments ready. Even in his last days, he still found moments to make us laugh. He always had memories from his childhood to share with the younger generation. He loved music and dancing with his wife he had the largest collection of cassettes and CDs he would play and loved singing along to them when he would play them.

Octavio attended church on Sundays with his wife. He always had a relationship with the Lord.

One of Octavio’s favorite day is the first Sunday of September when the family would celebrate their annual Martinez family picnic. It’s a 29-year tradition. He would cook his delicious brisket for everyone. There was always time spent laughing chatting dancing and singing.

Mana’s favorite memory was the cruise they took together they spent time looking at the ocean and holding hands. She holds that memory close to her heart.

His children remember the times when he would cook breakfast and make homemade bread, he learned a lot about cooking as a cook in the United States Coast Guard.

Visitation: Thursday, February 17, 2022. 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Zarzycki Manor Chapels, Ltd., 8999 Archer Ave, Willow Springs. Funeral Service: Friday, February 18, 2022 family and friends will meet at St. Procopius Catholic Church, 1200 West 18th Street (Corner of 18th Street and Allport Street) parking on 16th and Racine. Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial St. Mary Cemetery, 87th & Pulaski Road, Evergreen Park.

You are not forgotten, loved one nor will you ever be, as long as life and memory last, we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore. As time goes by, we’ll miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face, no one can fill your vacant place.

Church & Funeral staff asks that anyone who is considering being present for the service at the funeral home and church, please follow the mandatory COVID guidelines: masks must be worn at all times, respect social distancing and hand sanitizer to be used upon entering the funeral home and church.  We appreciate your understanding during these difficult times.
