With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of Milica Blagojević, age 91, of Plainfield, IL, on April 18, 2025. Milica was born on June 17, 1933, in the village of Velike Pčelice, Kragujevac, Serbia, to her beloved parents, Dragoslav and Milostija (Dimitrijević) Djurdjević. From a young age, Milica carried a passion for music in her heart—especially the accordian, which would become the soundtrack to her life’s journey.
In 1959, at just 26 years old, Milica bravely pursued her dream of coming to America, not just as an immigrant but as a musician and performer, using her gift to bring joy and celebration to others. She soon met and married the love of her life, Dragic Blagojević, in 1961. Together, they formed not only a beautiful marriage but a musical duo that became a cherished part of the Serbian community in the U.S., playing at countless weddings, baptisms, engagements, and traditional Serbian dances—igranke. Her music was more than a talent—it was her way of giving, connecting, and lifting spirits. She brought laughter, light, and life to every room she entered and touched the hearts of all who heard her play.
Milica was also a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy continues through her loving children: Dragan (wife Daniela) and Danica (husband Brad Arnold); her cherished grandchildren: Srbijanka, Marina, Deyana, and Tasha; and her dear brothers, Milan and Miodrag Djurdjević. She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Dragic, her parents, and her siblings: Milovan Djurdjević, Bosiljka Djukić, Rajna Djukanović, and Budimka Djurdjević.
Milica’s life was marked by grace, resilience, compassion, and joy. Beyond her musical legacy, she and Dragic helped countless others settle into a new life in America, offering guidance, support, and a sense of home. Her courage and determination paved the way for future generations, and her selflessness left a permanent imprint on all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM at New Gracanica Serbian Monastery, 35240 W. Grant Avenue, Lake Villa, IL. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at New Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Cemetery.
