Gerardo "El Borrego" Flores Acevedo

Gerardo Flores Acevedo age 69 passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026 at University of Illinois Unity Care in Chicago, Illinois Gerardo is survived by his loving children: Gerardo (Guerito) Flores, Zaira (Chuy) Ortiz and his cherished grandchildren: Destiny Ramos, Eliana Ortiz and Daman Flores. Gerardo was preceded in death by his beautiful wife +Maria Teresa Herrera.

Gerardo was known to many as “El Borrego” the Pilsen Neighborhood was his home for over three decades, many saw him pushing his cart of Paletas during Spring, Summer and Fall. Dvorak Park and the Corner of 18th and Blue Island is where you could find El Borrego always cheerful and greeting all those who crossed his path.

El Borrego was a great cook and would cook great meals upon request from his kids. El Borrego will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and those who knew him.

Visitation: Friday, June 12, 2026 9 am until the start of his Celebration of Life Mass at 10 am at St. Procopius Church, 1222 West 18th Street, (Corner of 18th Street and Allport) Chicago, Illinois. Burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Road, Hillside, Illinois 60167.
