I am heartbroken to announce that my beautiful brother, Fernando Vega (57), passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Born on July 7, 1968, Freddy – as he was known by those closest – was my most cherished confidant and greatest supporter. Along with my other brothers, we grew up facing life’s challenges, and together, delighted in its wonders. He served as Assistant Manager of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Box Office, a proud member of Local 750 for over 25 years.
With friends and all who knew him, his sweet and quiet demeanor always filled the room with acceptance and caring, his boundless generosity filling our hearts and steadying our spirits.
He is survived by his siblings; Graciela, Jaime (Lisa) Vega and José (Kelly) Vega. With childlike playfulness, he was an endearing uncle to Blanca (Derick), José Inez (Maria), Raquel (Les), Victor (Mina), Eduardo (Veronica), Emmanuel, Alex, Adam (Katie), and Claudia. He shared many wonderful stories and meals with our extended family, both here in the States and in Mexico. He was predeceased by our beloved parents Inez and Cristina, along with our “Biggest” brother Inez (Blanca Alicia).
A funeral mass will be held on Friday November 28, 2025 at Church of the Holy Family, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd, Chicago, IL 60608. There will be an hour of visitation and prayer starting at 9:30am, with the service starting promptly at 10:30am. Accessible parking is available on May St at the Roosevelt Rd entrance.
In lieu of flowers, along with José and Jaime, I kindly ask that you consider a donation to The Greater Chicago Food Depository, 4100 W. Ann Lurie Place, Chicago, IL 60632. To make an online donation please the link at the bottom of the obituary.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Fernando’s honor just after the holidays, to be announced in the near future.
