Matthew Shauger

Leave A Condolence

Matthew J. Shauger “Matt”, age 39 years, of Coxsackie, N.Y., passed away on May 14, 2019. He was born on November 14, 1979 and is the son of John Melvin and Laura Ellen Shauger.

Besides his parents, and his grandmother, he is survived by his children Alexandra Grace Shauger, Jacob John Shauger, sister Jennifer Lynn Johnson and her husband Nicholas Alexander, and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and Cousins, as well as many dear friends and neighbors.

Matthew is a resident of Coxsackie since childhood, has family roots set in Lisle IL.

He is a graduate of the Coxsackie Athens High School, was an athlete of soccer and baseball from Tee Ball to The American Legion. Matthew attended Hudson Valley Community College and Columbia Greene Community College. He proudly served in The U.S. Navy, during three tours of service from 2000 – 2010 (USS Constellation and USS John F. Kennedy), Gulf War Era, Water and Field duty, was Sailor of The Year, and was Petty Officer 1st. Class. He proudly ended his military career as an instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

He loved his children dearly and as they became older he extended his love of the outdoors to them. He was an outdoor enthusiast, Mr. Go Fast, when opportunity arose to “go fast”, he jumped in to join. He enjoyed trail riding in the mountains with his children, and the roar of a good day at the motorcycle track. He was a hiker and mountain lover introducing his children to beautiful scenic hikes both in New York and in Illinois. He was a sharpshooter who learned his skills from the Old Man (His Father). He was an avid animal lover who supported rescue shelters. Matthew was stylish from his shoes to his suit jackets. He loved decorating, including painting and choosing the décor for his home. He was always the Life of the Party, enjoying fun times during childhood in Coxsackie, at sea in the U.S. Navy, and hosting sports night and poker games at his house.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at W.C. Brady’s Sons, Inc. Funeral Home, 97 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, N.Y., on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 24, 2019, St. Mary’s R. C. Church, Coxsackie, N.Y. at 10:00 A.M.
