Leonel Cano Bernal (Leo), age 83, passed away on January 9th, 2021 at Rush University Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Leo was born in Reynosa Tamaulipas, Mexico on June 24, 1937 to parents Juan Bernal & Luz Cano.  At the age of 18 he became a soldier in the Mexican armed forces where he served for 3 years.  In November 1969, Leo moved to Chicago, making Pilsen his home and became a hardworking man to raise his family.

Leonel is survived by his wife and soul mate of 62 years, Maria Bernal, sons- Martin (Laura), Leonel Jr., Jimmie; daughters- Mary (Victor), Nora (Kiko), Letisia (Andrej), Brenda (Arthur), 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Leo was a great husband, family man, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who will truly be missed and forever in our hearts.  He will always be the rock of our family and we know he is dancing his way into heaven.

Private Funeral Service: Friday, January 15, 2021, family and friends who will be accompanying the family for the Public viewing from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and for Celebration of Life Service/Funeral Mass at 5:00 p.m. at St. Pius V. Church must register to attend funeral mass with a family member. There will be a list at the entrance of Church to sign in and verify you are on the list. Church requires those attending mass must register and only 50 (includes the immediate family and their children so very limited space for the number of people who will be allowed inside of church.

Please be respectful of the wishes of the family. Only 10 people at a time will be allowed in the church for public viewing. Funeral home associates will be directing those paying respects upon entering the Church. ALL ATTENDEES will have their temperatures checked, must cover using face masks and respect social distancing and use of hand sanitizers.

Leonel Cano Bernal (Leo), de 83 años, falleció el 9 de enero de 2021 en el Hospital Rush University, en Chicago, Illinois.

Leo nació en Reynosa Tamaulipas, México; el 24 de junio de 1937; de padres Juan Bernal y Luz Cano.  A la edad de 18 años se convirtió en soldado en las fuerzas armadas mexicanas donde sirvió durante 3 años.  En noviembre de 1969, Leo se mudó a Chicago, haciendo de Pilsen su hogar y se convirtió en un hombre trabajador para criar a su familia.

A Leonel le sobrevive su esposa y alma gemela de 62 años, Maria Bernal, hijos- Martin (Laura), Leonel Jr., Jimmie; hijas- María (Víctor), Nora (Kiko), Letisia (Andrej), Brenda (Arthur), 21 nietos y 14 bisnietos.

Leo era un gran esposo, hombre de familia, padre amoroso, abuelo y bisabuelo, a quien realmente se le extrañará y llevaremos por siempre en nuestros corazones.  Siempre será la roca de nuestra familia y sabemos que está bailando en su camino hacia el cielo.

Servicio Funerario Privado: Viernes, 15 de enero de 2021.  Familiares y amigos que acompañarán a la familia para la visita pública de 3:00 p.m. a 4:00 p.m. y para la misa celebración de vida, a las 5:00 p.m. en la Iglesia de San Pío V.  para lo cual deben registrarse para asistir, con un miembro de la familia.  Habrá una lista en la entrada de la Iglesia antes de iniciar la visitación y se verificará que usted está registrado/a en la lista (la iglesia requiere que los asistentes a misa deben registrarse y sólo 50 personas, incluyendo a la familia inmediata y sus hijos; debido a tan limitado espacio para el número de personas que se permitirán dentro de la iglesia.

Por favor, sea respetuoso de los deseos de la familia. Sólo 10 personas a la vez serán permitidas en la iglesia para la visitación pública, Los Asociados Funerarios dirigirán a todas las personas para que rindan sus respetos al entrar en la Iglesia. A TODOS LOS ASISTENTES se les revisarán la temperatura corporal, deben cubrirse con las cubre bocas/ mascarilla de boca, se deberá respetar el distanciamiento social y el uso de desinfectantes de manos.
