We remember John Torres, whose spirit departed from us on June 10, 2024, at the age of 76. John was the beloved husband of Marietta Rotman Torres, the devoted father of JP and Augustine, and the loving brother of Dolores (Joe Gonzalez, Rick (Eva) Gomez), Ben Gomez (Eva Rivera), and the late Alfonso. John was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews, a friend of many, and Isa’s favorite Patito.
John’s will to live was great, for 17 years he fought the good fight against all his medical conditions. John Torres, a hero who dedicated over 20 years of his life to protecting others as a firefighter, bravely risked his life to save others and selfishly served his community every day.
His unwavering courage, compassion, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him as he leaves behind a legacy of bravery, faith, and service that will continue to inspire many and shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. His unwavering devotion to his community and his commitment to serving others were rooted deeply in his Catholic beliefs. John embodied the principles of his faith, showing compassion, selflessness, and courage leading his life with a sense of duty and honor.
A lover of politics and sports, John would start his Morning with Morning Joe and a cup of Joe, engaging people in a conversation of politics or sports.
May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the Lord, knowing that his life made a profound difference in the lives of many. Rest in peace, dear John. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

I’m going to miss your words of truth as you called it but sarcastic ways as well you mark my heart as I grew up listening to you and learning but I always loved you no matter if I was right or wrong you will always said do what you to do and that was always a picker upper when i needed that boost. It’s not going to be the same without you Iknw I haven’t been around as much but in spirit you knew I will always be there . Since first meeting John in 7th grade I knew I had a loyal friend for life Very positive influence on each other from the get go … for some reason we clicked from that day to all thru high school … waxing his Chevy and talking for hours He taught me to BOX which was a gift in our neighborhood..God Bless you my friend
My dear Marietta our heart aches at the loss of our dear friend John. He was an inspiration to all of us. Despite his many illnesses, pain and suffering, he never complained. He always said he was good when asked how he was. We so enjoyed traveling with you both and the many visits together. We will miss him dearly. One of the things John left for sure was his legacy of love for you Marietta. No matter what, he loved you. Cling to those memories and let them comfort you in the day’s ahead and let them help you find peace. God bless you always and I know John is rejoicing in heaven with his family. And I know John will always be watching you from above and whispering to you to “Go Slow”. Love you!!

Marietta, I know there are no words that can make this better but I want you to know that Peyton and I are praying for you. The love you have for John is beautiful and the memories will live forever. You both treated us like family when we moved onto Miller. I can hear John saying “what’s up there Terr” leaning on the inside of the gate with his morning coffee. While we’ve moved away you and John are our Forever Neighbors and we love you.
