Jesus Madrigal

6 Condolences

Jesus Madrigal Garcia, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away very suddenly in Chicago on Monday, April 27, 2020 at 73 years of age. Jesus was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1946 in “La Caridad” Penjamillo, Michoacán to Concepción Madrigal and Adelaida Garcia. He married the love of his life, Altagracia Madrigal on February 27, 1974. That same year, they migrated to the United States and settled in Pilsen.

From a very early age Jesus recognized the importance of an education. Education was a fundamental cornerstone in his upbringing, beginning at Vasco de Quiroga and culminating in his Law degree at the University of Michoacán of San Nicolas of Hidalgo in Morelia, Michoacán. During his time at the University he became the leader of a legal group that defended, represented, and fought for other’s rights. This would become a recurring theme throughout his life, whether it pertained to family, friends, or complete strangers.  He always stood up for what was right and was often a voice for those who couldn’t speak up for themselves. He would also earn himself the affectionate nickname of “Lic” short for Licenciado (Lawyer).

In 1980, Jesus and Altagracia not only purchased a bar located in Pilsen, “Rincon Tarasco” but also the building it was located in. It was in this very building, on 18th Street, that they were able to create so many beautiful memories together for over 40 years. Jesus was the heart and soul of his family, instilling in them enough love and joy to last this lifetime and the next. Jesus was a family man and nothing made him prouder than his children and grandchildren.  Although he was a jack of all traits, his true passions were family, politics, soccer, music and cooking.

He has left a lasting imprint in his loving Pilsen neighborhood as well as his loving hometown of Penjamillo, Michoacán. In 2011, Jesus and Altagracia retired and moved back to Penjamillo in order to restart his former political career. During his time there, he was able to engage in charitable acts and projects that would benefit his humble community of Penjamillo, which he loved so dearly and always held so close to his heart. His humility and kindness were virtues that all that knew him were witness to. He gave so selflessly to others and never asked for anything in return.

He will always be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humor, infectious smile, kind heart, and compassionate spirit.  He left a great impact on each and every person he met, whether he knew you for 5 minutes or 50 years. Jesus always found a positive outlook to everything even when others couldn’t.  His level of compassion and empathy for others knew no boundaries. Although many of his proudest moments involved those spent with his family, he was always happy to spend time with friends.

Jesus is survived by his loving wife Altagracia Madrigal and their six children; Arturo, Azusena (Suzy), Hadie (Rocio), Estrella, Maria (Tuti), and Altagracia (Tita). Jesus also had 13 grandchildren whom he loved dearly; Alexis, Jasmine, Jesus, Daniel, Angel, Angelina, Isabella, Octaviano (Jr.), Sophia, Adelaide, Leonardo, Cristian, and Elena.

Jesus was preceded in death by his Father, Concepcion Madrigal and his Mother, Adelaida Garcia as well as his brother, Juan Madrigal Garcia.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Your daughter Altagracia blessed me with her friendship and service as my hair stylist at ALTA..we spoke often of our families,so even though I didnt meet the patriarch Mr. Madrigal I know he was a wonderful man. I have no doubt.
May you be comforted in knowing he’s at peace and there is one more angel in heaven.
