Jim was a blessing to me whenever I’d go home and he’d pass me in the hall during his rounds he would be there to encourage me.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Jim was always a friendly face when I left at the end of the day. He always seemed happy to see me and would ask how I was doing. He is greatly missed.

Dear Christine, Sara, and Carolyn,

I knew Jim for 20 years in Chicago. Jim was, in his personal life, a very solitary man, yet those in the neighborhood who knew him had only kind words to say about him. For over 11 years, we shared the same floor in his apartment building and spoke often. Often, we would stop for a few minutes and talk when we saw each other in the hallway. On other occasions, we would stand outside the building, enjoying the weather and talking at great length. I always enjoyed those long conversations. He often spoke about you.

I sometimes said to friends whom I knew in other settings that there were many people in the world who might present themselves in a favorable light, yet not measure up to their words. I then mentioned a man I knew from my apartment building who was the exact opposite… often self-deprecating, yet one of the kindest, most decent people I have ever known.

I moved out of his neighborhood nine years ago, but kept in touch. In years when I sent out only a few Christmas cards, I made sure that he was one of the ones on my list. I had a feeling that something might be wrong when I failed to see his car for several occasions in a row when I drove by the old neighborhood. I was going to stop by his building today and ring the buzzer to his apartment, but I thought I’d google his name first. I then came across this notice.

I can’t tell you how deeply saddened I am by his death. I’ll never forget Jim. He was like a big brother to me. I’m going to mourn his passing for a long time. He was more than a neighbor…he was a close friend.

If you ever want to contact me, please feel free to email me, or call me at(773)206-7087. I am sorry for your loss.
God Bless You, Pat Kelly
