Dorothy Matthesius Ash was born on November 10, 1916, died peacefully at her home on Lake Shore Drive November 1, 2014. Dorothy emigrated from Dresden, Germany with her family to Chicago in 1926. She became a professional dancer and performed throughout the US and Canada. In 1941,she married Harry A. Ash, a well-known Chicago attorney. They had two children, Dorothea (Dee Dee) Linklater, of Chicago and Frederick C. Ash of Jupiter, Florida. In 1970 the couple moved to Bal Harbour, Florida where Dorothy became well-known for her charity and volunteer work. She is the proud grandmother of Dale Ash, Elizabeth Ash Kaplan, and great-grandmother to Chase, Ava & Mia Kaplan, and Quinn Ash, all of Florida. She moved back to Chicago full-time in 2007 and has been treasured by her many friends for her loving nature and kind heart.

I am a friend of Fred Ash and have been for 38 years. I met Dorothy several times at Fred and Allison’s house when they lived in Miami. I was very impressed with Dorothy’s attractiveness, wit, charm, and kindness. I am truly sorry this wonderful lady has passed. She left an impression on all those she met I am sure. Rest in peace Dorothy.
