Carleen was my hairdresser for twenty years. I would love going for my appointments. She always made me laugh with her funny stories. When I went to visit her at the nursing home, she continue to make the best out of a very bad situation. Carleen would always talk about her three beautiful grandchildren. She was very proud Grandmother. I will truly miss her, Peace Carleen finally.

She was a very proud Grandmother. I truly will miss her. Peace Carleen you deserve it.

Earlier today I was telling my daughter that I had not had a good hair style since the last one Carleen gave me before she retired. Carleen had been my hairdresser for 35 years, longer than some marriages last. Carleen and I started on the second floor of Ruby’s department store in downtown Elmhurst, and I followed her wherever she went. Not only was she excellent at her job, she also had a listening ear, a warm heart, a wicked sense of humor, and supportive advice when I needed it. I always left feeling prettier on the inside as well as on the outside. I was saddened to learn that she has died. Carleen was a GOOD WOMAN.

Carlene was my coworker, hairdresser and friend. We attended Christmas parties, dinner parties and other gatherings together. We enjoyed just hanging out most of the time in the shop after everyone finished working. Sometimes we would order a pizza and have a good old time. It was such a fun place to work with a mixture of personalities that mostly complimented each other. I have many happy and funny memories and Carleen contributed to them.
She loved trying new recipes and was passionate about good food. She had a contagious laugh and never had a problem speaking her mind or sharing her opinions. She had a generous spirit and a compassionate heart. I remember when 9-11 occurred she made biscotti’s and donated the money she made selling them for a while. Everyone loved her baking including me. She continued baking for friends for extra income and we all were grateful for her talent, we enjoyed eating her delicious biscotti so much. She knew that I liked to bake also so she bought me a biscotti pan and a beautiful pie dish that I still use today.
Carleen was proud of her daughter and adored her grandchildren. She always had a story to tell about her grandchildren and her face would beam as she shared the latest photos of them. She proudly had a gift of some sort that she purchased, waiting to give them when they came to visit. Gianna , Ben and (for the life of me I can’t remember her oldest grandsons name, could it be Nick?) were obviously her pride and joy!
Carlene took dance lessons at one time I remember. She looked forward to her private lessons and was having a good time learning new steps. She would show us her latest dance moves as she smiled from ear to ear entertaining us. That’s how I remember Carleen.
Whenever I went to visit her at the nursing home I would bring lunch, fruit or candy. She always appreciated everything except for the one time I made her kale chips. I thought they were delicious and a healthy snack, she didn’t think too much of them, but appreciated my efforts.
I will remember her fondly and miss her.
