After a hard fought battle with cancer, Steve Bruno Abramowicz passed away on October 6, 2017 in Nashville, TN at the age of 65. He leaves behind his life’s love and best friend Sara, his beautiful gems, his son Steven and daughter Stephanie.

Steve was born on December 18, 1951 in the back of the yards neighborhood of Chicago, IL to father Bruno Abramowicz and mother, Geraldine Abramowicz. He grew up in a large, loving family with two sisters and three brothers.

He graduated from St. Rita High School and continued his education at DePaul University where he graduated with an accounting degree.

Later in life, he developed a strong passion for golf. He found joy and solace in the game, and enjoyed playing for the rest of his life. For Steve, golf was not only a hobby but a way to channel his competitive energy.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served during the Vietnam War.

Steve married Sara Munoz on April 8, 1995. Together they settled in Burr Ridge, IL where they raised their two children, Steven and Stephanie.

He was a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed dancing, karaoke with family and friends and taking care of his two dogs, Stella and Benny. He was also an avid cook, able to prepare his mother’s crepe recipe like no other.

When diagnosed with cancer in 2016, he remained dedicated to his daily activities and in his will to fight his illness.

He was a brave, companionate, iron-willed man.

Steve is survived by his Loving wife Sara and children, Steven and Stephanie, as well as his sisters, Kathy Wydajewski (Joseph) and Linda Heiy (Tom), his brothers Ronald (Cheryl), Richard, and William (Ayleen); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Steve requested to be cremated. Mass of Remembrance will be on Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. Rita High School Chapel, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60620 in Chicago at 11:00 am. Please join the family for a luncheon at Palermo’s 95th,  4849 95th St, Oak Lawn, IL 60453.

We haven’t seen you for quite sometime now since I now reside in Canada with my husband Kevin. I just remember the group of my brothers friends that stayed pals for life and how much my twin sis and i wanted to date some of you. Brother Dan would have none of it. May you RIP and keep swinging that club in heaven.

To a good guy that cold laugh louder than all of us. You could never be replaced.

Growing up, my friends would see Steve at family parties and say, here comes your crazy Godfather. Ha ha I remember him having the loudest laugh and the arguments between him and my father; times the noise by 10. But he was also one of the coolest godfathers to have and the bear hugs he gave, although you probably couldn’t breath, you knew he loved ya. I’m glad my children had a chance to meet him because that one time made a dent in their lives too. Even older, Steve was still loud, still had the best laugh, and both of my children said: “Mom I bet growing up, he was one cool Godfather”. They’ll remember his crazy and great self, just like the rest of us always will.

To his beautiful family: I am so sorry for your loss. If he was a great Godfather, I can’t even imagine what a wonderful Husband and fantastic Dad he was. He loved his family and I know his spirit won’t ever leave any of your sides. May he rest in peace but may his memories last a lifetime….

Love always, Desi, Miggy and Vivi
